Low-temperature biomass pyrolysis test facility system construction for the solid alternative

Absrtact
This project investigated the characteristic of herbal and woody biomass waste low-temperature pyrolysis for the solid alternative biofuel production and evaluated the feasibility of the real plant setting. A 26 kg/hr processing capacity rotary kiln pilot low-temperature pyrolysis system was also set up. The laboratory result shows that under 70 wt.% retention, the heat value of cedar and rice straw was significantly increased to 5,000-6,200 kcal/kg after low-temperature pyrolysis processes which are already close to the coal. While energy density increased by 10 to 30%.Because of low lignin content of the organic fiber from municipal solid waste (MSW), the increasing of heating value is not significant. The result of real scale pyrolysis plant test shows that the rotary kiln type reactor can use for the production of biomass solid fuel, however the feeding system, rotating rate and product cooling system have to improve. Economic assessment results show the real scale plant to product cracker and rice straw biomass need energy input 4.65 MJ/kg per year for the ELCA. The energy analysis shows that heating of the low-temperature pyrolysis equipment heat consume the most energy, followed by the collection and transportation of energy. The EROI of cedar and rice straw solid biofuel production are 4.07 and 3.33, NER are 3.07 and 2.33, and η TE are 82.36 and 73.38%. For the future promotion of low-temperature pyrolysis biomass production system, the real plant should be regional and local and use small or middle -scale devices substitute large scale equipment.
